A Glimpse Into the Future

During the Analytics Tableau User Group, I revealed the new tool I am working on. If you missed the announcement, don’t worry; I’ll share everything with you in this post.

At the same time, Q4 just started, and we would like to share our goals and what to expect from us. We also would like your help to shape the future of this newsletter and decide the best email frequency.

So, if you are ready, let me give you a glimpse of the future.

A new way to build Dashboards in Tableau

For almost a year now, I’ve been building tools that solve issues or expand the capabilities of Tableau.

Everything started with the Network generator, allowing everyone to make advanced charts in Tableau in just a few clicks. Lately, I have released BANg, a KPI Dashboard generator that saves you hours of repetitive work.

The goal is always the same: make an easy-to-use tool to enhance the experience of using Tableau. And if there’s one experience I want to improve, it’s building dashboards.

Aligning two worksheets with your mouse will probably break your container. Resizing your dashboard will reposition and change the size of all your floating elements. In most cases, you cannot change the format of multiple elements at a time. I could continue, but you get the idea. It can improve.

I started using Tableau in 2015 and built my first dashboard. Eight years later, little has changed, and what seemed revolutionary before seems more and more outdated today. Things need to change.

I’ve been using Figma for the last two years as part of my design process. I am thinking, iterating, and designing most of my dashboards in Figma. But in the end, I still needed to develop them in Tableau.

That process only strengthened my frustration with making Dashboards in Tableau. There are so many clicks and so much repetitive formatting everywhere. It sounds like there’s room for a new tool!

Introducing Figma to Tableau Converter: an upcoming Figma plugin allowing you to convert your Figma design into a fully functional Tableau dashboard in just one click.

We already have a working proof of concept, but there’s still much to do to have a robust tool available to everyone. We plan to release the plugin later this quarter, around November, so stay tuned!

Master plan for Q4

We create a new plan outlining our goals at the start of each quarter. As you follow our progress, we want to share this plan with you so that you know what to anticipate from us. This quarter, we plan to work on the following:

• Release the Figma to Tableau plugin.

• For AdvViz: a Streamgraph Generator for Advviz and a gallery showcasing all the great work done by the community with the tool.

• For BANg: add the comparison with a target and an option to use a custom fiscal year.

• An overall redesign of our website's main page and a specific product page.

• Start making video content in Spanish and add a Voronoï Treemap and Chord Diagram tutorial.
